Perspectives on Wildlife Crime: How Do We Fight Back?
On-Demand Webinar
Wildlife crime is the 4th largest source of illicit funds globally and is estimated to generate a staggering $1-2 trillion annually. The illegal wildlife trade pushes many animal species to the verge of extinction and damages vital ecosystems across the globe. Criminals involved in the trade often bribe officials and use tried and tested trafficking routes to transport wildlife and wildlife products transcontinentally. These criminals need to be stopped. Unfortunately, only 1% of all wildlife trafficking cases result in money laundering investigations, charges, or prosecutions.
Join us on 1st June to hear from wildlife conservation experts and frontline environmental crime fighters about wildlife crime, the current challenges and trends, and what we can do to fight back.
Agenda:
- What is wildlife crime and why is it a threat?
- Who are the common actors in wildlife crime? Where are they located?
- What common illegal wildlife products are traded, how are they transported, and where do they end up?
- How do wildlife traffickers interact with the financial system in the course of their activities?
- What common red flags are there to indicate an individual or corporation could be involved in these environmental crimes?
- How can AML organizations help in the fight against financial crime?
